ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLANS

Many projects require an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) be developed covering key environmental aspects, impacts and proposed management actions to minimise impacts.

An Environmental Management Plan (EMP) will provide answers to the following important questions:

What are the likely environmental issues for your site?
What likely harm these issues can cause to the surrounding environment?
How will you manage these issues to minimise harm to the environment?

An Environmental Management Plan (EMP) is a site-specific plan developed to ensure that all necessary measures are identified and implemented in order to protect the environment and comply with environmental legislation.Typically an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) will include the following items:

Summary of aspects, impacts and proposed management;
Project description including: brief background of the project; reasons for implementation; objectives; key project activities and a key characteristics;
Existing Environment: describe the existing environment within the project area;
Environmental Aspects: list all potential environmental aspects;
Potential Environmental Impacts: describe the potential environmental impacts in terms of the project description, existing environment and environmental aspects;
Environmental Management Plan: outline management actions to minimise environmental impacts; and
Recommendations for further studies or referrals
