CONTAMINATED SITES
Contaminated sites legislation places a potentially substantial burden on landowners. Many property transactions and developments include environmental compliance obligations for potentially contaminated soils.
Dinglebird Environmental undertakes a full range of Contaminated Sites compliance assessments including Preliminary Site Investigations (PSI), Detailed Site Investigations (DSI), Remediation Action Plans (RAP), Site Management Plans (SMP), Remediation and Validation, and Groundwater Monitoring Events that are well researched, innovative, practical, compliant and cost-effective.
Soil or Groundwater Contamination, pollution and spills on Contaminated Sites may be caused by:
Fuels, oils and greases that may infiltrate the soil causing land contamination.
Heavy metals – these are often associated with lead (TEL and TML) that was previously a petroleum additive.
Asbestos at levels which exceed the Contaminated Sites guidelines (Guidelines for the Assessment, Remediation and Management of Asbestos-Contaminated Sites in Western Australia May 2009)
Paints, glues, chemicals and solvents from industrial processes
Hazardous wastes which can cause soil contamination. These can include organic and putrescible effluents.
Contaminated Sites include aspects of:
Soil
Groundwater
Surface Water
Sediment
Soil Vapour
Who is legally required to report a contaminated site?
Owner
Occupier
A party who suspects they have caused soil contamination
A Contaminated Site Auditor
Dinglebird Environmental consultants assist many clients with contaminated sites compliance and remediation, ranging from soil contamination at market gardens to large industrial facilities on rural, urban, wetland and estuarine soils which have frequently required the resolution of soil contamination issues such as underground storage tanks USTs, acid sulphate (acid sulfate) soils, and asbestos soil contamination.
