MARITIME ASBESTOS SURVEYS
Offshore oil and gas developments off the Australian coast are driving a requirement for specialist offshore vessels for a range of support services. The use of asbestos containing products is now prohibited in all workplaces in Australia including offshore vessels. Vessels based in South East Asia and elsewhere need to be independently assessed for asbestos before they are able to work in Australian waters.
Dinglebird Environmental specialises in conducting comprehensive Asbestos Surveys for offshore vessels associated with the oil and gas industries. It is essential that offshore vessels comply with Australian asbestos prohibitions. All asbestos containing material (ACM) must be documented in the hazard register, including the associated exposure risk.
Where maintenance has been undertaken in overseas shipyards there can be uncertainty as to the composition of gaskets, lagging, brake materials etc. We provide a comprehensive and systematic inspection, sampling and reporting service, with a scope that has been drawn up in consultation with stakeholders including offshore operating companies and the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA), so that all the parties can rely on the resulting reports.
Asbestos management procedures must include the location of ACM, existing controls for not disturbing ACM and response to any disturbance, procedures for replacement and removal, and when monitoring is required to ensure hazards are contained.
As an extra service, we provide a display list of precautions to reduce asbestos risk on each vessel in an emergency or where it is unknown whether or not a disturbed material contains asbestos.
