ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENTS

Environmental impact assessments (EIA) of development proposals are needed where development is likely to have a significant effect on the environment.

An EIA prepared by Dinglebird Environmental is designed to demonstrate to regulators that:

• best practicable measures have been taken in planning and designing the project to avoid, and where this is not possible, to minimise impacts on the environment; and
• unavoidable impacts of the project should be environmentally acceptable, taking into account cumulative impacts which have already occurred in the region, and principles of sustainability.

To ensure these requirements are met, potential environmental impacts and constraints should be identified early in the planning and design of a proposal, and adequate time and resources devoted to carrying out environmental surveys and investigations.

• encourage proponents to implement continuous improvement in environmental performance and the application of best practice environmental management in implementing their proposal; and
• ensure that independent, reliable information is provided to the Government before decisions are made.
